As part of its community collaboration efforts, the Department of Development Journalism (DDJ) conducted Ulat: Los Baños Times Training Workshop for Colegio De Los Baños (CDLB) Senior High School Students on 27-28 July 2023 at the College of Development Communication (CDC) building.
The public service initiative was requested by the school through its journalism adviser, Ms. Christina Corpuz, who is also a CDC alum.
The activity was also in line with DDJ’s efforts to engage community stakeholders to become collaborators of LB Times.
The Day 1 of the training included foundational topics on journalism skills, such as the fundamental of development journalism, journalism ethics, news writing, and feature writing, which were facilitated by Asst. Prof. Aletheia C. Araneta, Asst. Prof. Jyasmin M. Calub-Bautista, Mr. Mar Jhun Daniel, and Ms. Denyll Francine Almendras, respectively.
The Day 2 of the training included a seminar-workshop on copyreading and headline writing in the morning, and parallel sessions on specialized journalism skills, namely photojournalism, mobile journalism, editorial writing, and sports writing. Mr. Miguel Victor T. Durian, Asst. Prof. Lynette Carpio-Serrano, Mr. Marco Rapsing, Mr. Reuben Pio Martinez, and Mr. Jan Paolo Pasco facilitated these workshops, respectively.
The event was part of the 40th anniversary celebration of LB Times and one of DDJ’s activities for the Silver Anniversary of CDC. (Miguel Victor Durian)
