The Department of Educational Communication (DEC) received a plaque of appreciation from the Department of Education (DepEd) Los Baños Sub-Office during this year’s Gawad Makiling held on 1 December 2023 at the UPLB Baker Memorial Hall.
The award was granted to DEC in recognition of over ten years of project partnerships with DepEd through the Bernaldo N. Calara Elementary School (BNCES). BNCES has been a long-time partner school of DEC-CDC for its extension program Kalinga sa Eskwela (KSE), which aims to provide capacity-building opportunities for their academic staff, students, and other key sectors.
The award was accepted by Dean Maria Stella C. Tirol, Mr. Elijah Jesse M. Pine (DEC Officer-in-Charge, DEC), and Ms. Renz Frances D. Abagat-Manrique (University Extension Associate II, DEC).
During the ceremony, the award was presented by Mayor Anthony F. Genuino, Ms. Eva Marie S. Cambe (Public Schools District Supervisor, DepEd Los Baños), Ms. Roderica R. Camacho (Education Program Supervisor, DepEd Los Baños), and UPLB Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Roberto P. Cereno.
Themed “Husay, Talino, at Galing: Tatak ng Isang Matatag na DepEd Los Baños,” Gawad Makiling 2023 acknowledged the contributions of individuals, schools, and community stakeholders in attaining DepEd’s vision, mission, and goals of providing quality education to its learners.
DEC’s most recent partnership with BNCES that it launched in September this year is its Pananaliksik sa Paaralan: A Kalinga sa Eskwela Initiative, an action research training-workshop for the school’s teachers. (Reeve Jairo A. De Los Santos; Photos by Mario B. Maningas)
